  • China Mobile’s OMS (Open Mobile System) Gets 2.0 Upgrade

Posted February 5, 2010 // Tagged as handcellphone // No Comments

    Lenovo Ophone

China Mobile, the world largest mobile network, today announced that its upcoming OMS 2.0 (open mobile system) will support Windows Mobile, Symbian OS, and also Android. OMS is China Mobile’s own browser-based application engine (BAE) that allows the carrier to have its own online mobile application store just like Apple’s iTune.

Combining the Android Market, Windows Marketplace and Symbian/Ovi Store will offer China Mobile’s OMS phones (Ophones) a fighting chance against iPhones offered by China Unicom, the sources commented.

Currently, almost all major cell phone manufacturers have released at least one Ophone (phone that supports Open Mobile System) in China.

    Nokia C5

There are some leaked photos of Nokia C5 in the Internet. The C5 was widely reported the first phone of Nokia’s new C series line of product. The C5 looks like a low-end product from Nokia. It neither has touch screen nor AMOLED display. What it has are a 2.2-inch QVGA screen, Symbian S60, HSDPA, 3.2-MP digital camera, FM Radio, 50 MB memory space, A-GPS, and HSDPA. It is hard to get excited about this phone. However, this might be a perfect phone for users who need a regular phone with some bonus multimedia features.

Posted February 5, 2010 // Tagged as handcellphone // No Comments

    Bluetooth 3.0

According to Engadget.com, Samsung will launch Samsung GT-S8500 in coming weeks. What is so special about the GT-S8500 is it is probably the world’s first mobile phone that has Bluetooth 3.0, a new Bluetooth standard that supports data transfer speeds of up to 24 Mbit/s. Bluetooth 3.0 allows multiple files transfer at the same time, a nice feature that makes file transfer between PC and phone or phone and phone a lot easier and faster. With a phone that has Bluetooth 3.0, users could send music or video from PC to the phone over the air. We expect that the Samsung GT-S8500 will appear at Mobile World Congress, which will be held from Feb 15 to 18.
